Introduction – Ollie Wright

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Name: Ollie Wright Team: Derby County First Match: Lost 2-0 to Wolves, 1986. All I remember is, we conceded, kicked off, gave the ball away and conceded again.  From then on, I was hooked. Best Football Moment: Got to be when Stephen Pearson scored the winner at Wembley in the Championship play-off final. Lowest Football Moment: Probably the... »

Tyson takes gloss off fine game at City Ground

First of all, this was the best game I’ve ever been to, in terms of atmosphere and drama.  It had everything – goals, crunching tackles, some good football, controversy and two sets of players giving everything they’d got on a sunny August saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, there was also an unsavoury melee at the end, as... »

Match/War report: Nottingham Forest v Derby County

Monday, August 31st, 2009

I think the word they usually use to describe matches like this is ‘eventful’. There seems to be no middle ground with local derbies; either they fizzle out into dull draws because players and managers are not prepared to risk upsetting their fans by losing, or, as in this case, they are breathless, chaotic... »

Paul Dickov signs for Derby – Uwe Rosler to follow?

Paul Dickov signs for Derby – Uwe Rosler to follow?

As signings go, you don’t get much less inspiring than a 36 year-old centre forward on loan from Leicester City. But that is apparently the short-term answer to Derby County’s striker injury crisis, as a deal to bring Paul Dickov to Pride Park until January has been completed. There are probably good... »

Dive Talkin’

Friday, August 28th, 2009

This is my first piece for Paperback Mitre.  I have been relatively quiet up until now, due to a lack of internet access at home.  But I have been stirred into action following ‘divegate’ (I haven’t actually heard anyone refer to it as this, but I’m pretty sure someone has). I was sat at home... »

Introduction – Paul Musco

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Name: Paul Musco Team: Arsenal First Match: Crystal Palace v Arsenal – November 10th 1990.  A goalless draw. Best Football Moment: Either winning the double at Old Trafford in 2001/02, or ‘The Invincibles’ winning the league at White Hart Lane in 2003/04. Lowest Football Moment: Losing to Barcelona in the Champions League final. Ten word review of your team’s... »

A Shift In Balance?

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

What a strange week it has been as a Blackburn fan. This week we have completely outplayed a team yet still lost, are on the brink of losing possibly our best player, seen the manager admit we are now nothing more than a selling club, and welcomed back a great old face in a... »

I’m On Fire

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Some important developments in the world of Leicester City this week. Here’s a round up: Most recently we suffered our first defeat of the season away at Preston in the League Cup. I really couldn’t care to be honest which is sad because this competition has provided some good moments in the club’s history. Nicky... »

Waves of Confusion

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

To a committed fan used to being at matches, listening to your team on the radio is a downright strange experience. The match is live, the crowd noises projecting through the speakers, the action unfolding as usual, and  you’re left with the nothing but the word of a couple of strangers to bring you... »

AU released a great album in 2008 called Verbs. Later this year they are touring the UK, and will hopefully be playing some new songs too. This is a really fun popsong, with a kind of baltic feel to it. DF

Stereo Arcade are a popband from Sweden. They make really catchy art-rock, which has roots in the sounds of both Britain and Scandinavia. Thus far they have only put out a few songs, but if they are anything to go by this band will be worth going back to soon. DF
