Good performance. No points, no signings.

It has been a frustrating week to be a Blackburn fan. We have played very well in two games, then done very little in the transfer market. »

Blackwell Wins the Sack Race

Blackwell Wins the Sack Race

If a manager was to get the sack after two games, Sheffield United would be seen by most as an unlikely place for that to happen. Under the stewardship of Kevin Mcabe, Neil Warnock was able to stare down considerable discontent from the terraces as times, while it took a furious car park demonstration... »

Not The Real Thing? Not Worth It.

Not The Real Thing? Not Worth It.

Every second or third July or August I make the same mistake. I should be enjoying a break from the emotional trials of following Sheffield United, embracing the height of the cricket season, and beginning to look forward to the resumption of competition. Come August’s second weekend, instead, every once in a while, I... »

From this piece by Owen Gibson from The Guardian: “The idea may not be universally popular, not least at Old Trafford, but US sports giant ESPN has vowed to use its FA Cup deal to persuade clubs to follow the American model and revolutionise the access they give broadcasters. In the US, where ESPN built its... »

Link: Transfer fees of medical tools and a photocopier

This is a wonderful article (posted below) by John Roberts, from the Sporting Intelligence website on the way transfer deals were done in the late 70s: ring the chairman at the theatre, journalist suggests a player, send a photocopier on a train. Magic. »

So this is the new year, what have we achieved?

2009 has not been a classic year in the life of Blackburn Rovers Football Club. »

28/12/09 – Newcastle United 0 Derby 0. That’s much better, Rams. Thank you.

28/12/09 – Newcastle United 0 Derby 0. That’s much better, Rams. Thank you.

After the feckless home shows against Doncaster and Blackpool, a side with an away record as dire as ours could hardly be expected to get anything at St James’ Park.  Could they? In fairness, on another day, Newcastle could have won by two or three.  Perhaps they should have done.  Ryan Taylor should have done... »

Slick McCarthy or Dick McCarthy?

Slick McCarthy or Dick McCarthy?

Slick McCarthy by Peter Jones Mick McCarthy has come in for some stick this week from people moaning about his selection policy for Wolves’ trip to Manchester United. The FA have asked him to explain, UEFA have of course had their say and Arsene Wenger has bemoaned the decision in a none too subtle attempt to... »

Replica Shirts – Why ?!

Wednesday, December 9, 2009
By Adam Leese

By Adam Leese I’ve always found the buying of replica shirts rather strange. Obviously kids love them. Why wouldn’t they? They get to be Rooney, Torres, Drogba etc, and more importantly I suspect, get to show off to all their mates. Adults however, having surely given up the dream of scoring the cup final winner for... »

AU released a great album in 2008 called Verbs. Later this year they are touring the UK, and will hopefully be playing some new songs too. This is a really fun popsong, with a kind of baltic feel to it. DF

Stereo Arcade are a popband from Sweden. They make really catchy art-rock, which has roots in the sounds of both Britain and Scandinavia. Thus far they have only put out a few songs, but if they are anything to go by this band will be worth going back to soon. DF
