The Mitre does Bundesliga

Over the past couple of season, a number of the Paperback Mitre writers have been threatening a trip to Germany to take in some Bundesliga action. The league is well known throughout the footballing world as one of the most fan friendly ways to watch the game, with cheap ticket prices and the much... »

Club vs Country – why?

Paperback Mitre has been very quiet recently. We decided not to cover the World Cup, and given the quality of football on show, and performance of the England team, it could probably be seen as justified. Yet before the new season has even started (or at least for those of us who follow Premier... »

Shankly was wrong, football isn’t more important

On Saturday Blackburn traveled to Stoke, and put in our now familiar no-show away performance. However the game is of little, if any, importance following the events of the half-time break. Details of what occurred in the away end concourse are unclear, but the one fact is that a Rovers fan was hit by... »

On Saturday 24th October, following a 3-1 away win at big-spending Gainsborough, Stalybridge sat at the top of the Conference North after 14 games played. Three months on from that date we’d played just 3 more games in the league (picking up 7 points from them), whilst most other teams, particularly main promotion rivals Southport,... »

Troubled Times

Friday, November 20, 2009
By Steve Welch

After an up and down September, being a Sheffield United fan has really not been fun in the past month and a half as a winless run stretches by the game and players continue to limp away, not to be seen again for a while, the fans are discontented, the manager under pressure, and... »

Players returning to their old clubs. It isn't a new and exciting thing, footballers will always change clubs, and inevitably will return to their old club on the opposing team at some stage. AU released a great album in 2008 called Verbs. Later this year they are touring the UK, and will hopefully be playing some new songs too. This is a really fun popsong, with a kind of baltic feel to it. DF

Stereo Arcade are a popband from Sweden. They make really catchy art-rock, which has roots in the sounds of both Britain and Scandinavia. Thus far they have only put out a few songs, but if they are anything to go by this band will be worth going back to soon. DF
